Target Audience Research

Quantitative Data

Our first question was to determine gender. We asked an equal amount of males and females so we gathered valid research.
Our second question was to determine the age of our target audience. 50% being 17 and all other results 17+, we now know to whom our trailer is aimed.
'Do you like horror?' was a question specifically to see if we could gather serious answers. People who selected the 'No' option we expected to have little knowledge of the genre. So future answers may vary.
In our fourth question we asked how frequent our audience would go to the cinema to watch a horror film. 20% N/A as they had no interest in horror as found in question three. 50% of people said they rarely watched horror films at the cinema. With our horror trailer, we hope to encourage the custom of people that possibly haven't been keen on going in the past.
Our fifth question was to hopefully decipher whether people were not going to the cinema because they preferred to just watch in the comfort of their own home. 80% decided they would rather buy on DVD, perhaps because of price or because the trailer when advertised for the cinema was not that appealing.
For question six we wanted to see, who people tend to watch horrors with, and whether other people perhaps influence their choice to watch a film. The highest results came back between couples or mixed groups.
For our seventh question we wanted to discover the type of horror our audience would enjoy. The highest results we got back, came between psychological horrors and thrillers.
To help us with props and ideas for our horror trailer we wanted to discover what scares our audience mostly, with high results coming from Ghosts and Spiritual things, our idea of using a Ouiji board would fit well with this idea.
For our last question we wanted to discover the type of setting that would fit well in our horror trailer, highest percentile being in abandoned buildings, fits well with our original plans of using an abandoned airfield shelter to use for our horror trailer.

Qualitative Data

An advantage of using 'surveymonkey.com' meant we could edit our questions and access our results easily. We were also able to use our questionnaires and survey in association with social networking websites we all use frequently, resulting in more answers and audience research. Many of our respondents came from posting the link to our questionnaires online through website such as 'Facebook' and 'Twitter'.

  1. Good work. Can you evaluate your research methods? How and why did you choose to do it the way you did? Why online survey? How did you get respondants? Advantages and disadvantages of this method compare to others etc.
